Himalayan Herkimer 'Diamond' SOLD Gorgeous, water-clear Quality 1 Himalayan Herkimer 'Diamond' with two 'babies' (bridge crystals) at one end and a couple of tiny barnacles. It also has lovely carbon inclusions which actually appear silver at certain angles. This one also has a tiny bit a matrix still attached at the back of the crystal (iron-coloured patch in the photo) - an unusual little specimen. Herkimer 'Diamonds' are not diamonds at all, but are in fact, a natural double terminated type of Quartz. They get their name because they come out of the ground looking like beautifully polished diamonds. They often have carbon inclusions, which present as tiny spots of black inside the crystal, and rarely gold coloured inclusions (known as Golden Herkimers) which have a oil inclusions. The latter are very expensive crystals. The area where this crystal came from is reknown for its carbon included crystals, as with the Tibetan Blackspot specimens. Strictly speaking only specimens which come from Herkimer County in New York can be classified as true Herkimers, these from the Himalayas, however, are identical in all regards except for the fact that due to their source location they are said to carry the strong OM vibration.
